Temple of Mars Ultor

“The new head of the Praetorian Guard exiting the temple after a sacrifice to the god Mars Ultor seeking blessing for a long and honorable term of service.”

I used many 3D model sets to compose and render this scene in DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro. Among these are the following:

Temple of Mars
The Monastery (to create the side porticos surrounding the temple)
The Guildhall (the stone ground)

The Temple of Mars is actually smaller than what you see in the scene. I had to scale it up to 300% and the porticos up to 200% and the Guildhall ground up to 500%.

Real Metals for DAZ Studio was used on the statues flanking each side of the front of the temple. I used one of the female Spartan warriors from my Spartan Sentries render. The textures were great for the statues as they had already been applied with the Grime-Inizer for DAZ Studio and Rag-Erator for DAZ Studio. These came in handy as I used these textures in the displacement settings and they added a lot of details to parts of the mesh that would have been blank with just the Real Metals shader applied.

I tried several lights for this scene and finally decided on the Lantios Lights. I used preset no. 7 and cleared the colors, kept the backlight, the specular light, and ambient light 1 to get the desired result — a clear and sunny midday.

I clothed the priest and the workmen with the free Genesis Roman Style Outfits provided by Wilmap.

For the Praetorian guards I used the Legion for Genesis outfit and the shield from the Pretorian for Genesis outfit.

5/15/2013 Update: I added a horse and two hand carts filled with amphorae.

LoREZ Horse
Fantasy Camp III (the amphora)
Medieval hand cart (a Poser freebie by DryJack)
