Gloria – Order Of The Wolves

“Gloria – Order Of The Wolves.”

Inspired by the Game Of Thrones' full-length portrait promos.

The version of this image I used as the main thumbnail is that of Gloria posing with her wolf, even though the wolf looks less than real; or maybe it does look real and is the way dire wolves looked like in the past. Dire wolves had sturdier legs than those of the gray wolf and a larger head with a smaller brain. The model is Wolf by AM.

This image was a lot of work, there are a lot of displacements on the suit of armor that I needed to experiment with to get at a somewhat acceptable level. Half are regular displacements and the other half micro facets (they save on memory but are extremely slow to render).

I made plenty use of normal maps. These I created with CrazyBump. The suit of armor would not look as great as it does without the use of the normal maps in place of regular bump maps.

Supreme Armor Shoes
The armor suit model I used is Supreme Armor for V4 by Powerage. The model is designed specifically for Poser, there is no support for DAZ Studio, and even though the model's material settings can be edited to work in DAZ Studio there is a problem with the shoes in DAZ Studio 4 where the right shoe has a mesh spike that protrudes as the shoes are posed apart (and only in DAZ Studio 4, earlier versions of DAZ Studio don't seem to have this issue). (I figured out why this happens. It happens when two points are very close to each other, DAZ Studio welds them together. If you separate the objects a bit in a modeling program where the points are close together you can fix this issue.)

Ever since the Reality for DAZ Studio plug-in was offered I have done most of my renders with the LuxRender engine instead of the built-in DAZ Studio render engine. Basically I mostly use DAZ Studio to setup my scenes for LuxRender and I work the material settings in Reality.

Below I offer the displacement and subdivision settings in Reality for the Supreme Armor for use in LuxRender. The rest of the metal materials (pikes and buckles) you can just set the custom metal settings matching the polish settings you are using with the rest of the suit of armor and no displacement or subdivision as they use none (in the below settings I use 7000).
